“Happiness is only real when shared.”
You are probably wondering how I originally got into photography and made it my full-time job. Well, like many in this industry, I went to college, graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, and ended up working 40 hours a week in the corporate world, writing and creating training material for one of the nation’s top energy sales companies. I know right? They hired a German who’s second language is English to write all this fancy training?! Not to brag (haha) but I was actually really good at it and enjoyed doing it which is why I probably sticked around for as long as I did. I also felt a lot of comfort in receiving a regular paycheck every week and not having to worry about keeping up with my lifestyle.
But in the end, I wasn’t really happy. I dreamt of more, of being able to do what really spoke to me and made my heart jump in circles. For a long time, I had doubts and uncertainties that I would ever be able to live that dream. Until one day when I got married.
Immediately, I fell in love with everything about weddings: finding the prefect dress, picking the most romantic colors and classy theme, finding the most stunning table decor, tasting all of these yummy cakes, and the list goes on and on. You know! And the one thing I knew was that I needed to find someone who could preserve all of this beauty, all of my effort, and especially all of the emotion on the actual wedding day.
And this is how I met Jeff who owns and runs K&K Photography. He did such an amazing job and I’m extremely grateful for everything he has done for my family and me, not only by preserving these memories of the wedding day in the form of photographs, but for believing in me and helping me get to where I am today. Shortly after my wedding, he took me under his wing and showed me the ins and outs of wedding photography. Additionally, I’ve been expanding my own business to capture these special moments not only within the U.S. but all around the world. My European heritage and culturally diverse upbringing has always drawn me to discover all kinds of new lands and preserve the unique beauty, love, and family stories of people. For me, photographing is not just about taking a pretty picture; it is about finding the uniqueness and beauty in everything around and keeping those special memories for generations to come.
A few months ago I found some old photographs of my family and I remembered my grandma’s living room wall which she had covered in pictures of her family. Every time we would go to my grandmother’s house, we would spent time looking at these photographs, laughing while remembering some special moment, and telling each other family stories. As a child these photographs fascinated me and I felt sense of pride knowing who my ancestors were. I realized how much these images meant to my grandmother and I thought to myself what if she didn’t have those pictures of her parents and grandparents. What if the memories faded away, the faces disappeared, and there was nothing to help recall the love and emotions of past times?! It was a saddening idea and I wouldn’t want that for anyone. And this is why I do what I do.
My goal is to discover and highlight the beauty of this world, to capture love and the human spirit in the simplest and the most organic way and to preserve these memories so that your future generation can experience your love story and feel the same pride and love I felt when looking at my grandmother’s photographs.
